Navantia UK appoints Jim McHarg as Chief People Officer
Navantia UK is delighted to announce the appointment of Jim McHarg as Chief People Officer, effective 24 March 2025. This key appointment comes at an important time as we continue to strengthen our UK operations across our four sites and implement our £100 million strategic investment programme.
Jim joins Navantia UK with extensive shipbuilding and engineering sector experience, having most recently served as HR Director at Babcock International’s Marine and Engineering Systems business, overseeing HR operations at Rosyth, Devonport and overseas locations with 2,300 employees.
With a background that includes senior HR roles at BAE Systems Naval Ships and Weir Group, Jim brings significant expertise in workforce development, industrial relations and organisational transformation within complex engineering environments.

Jim holds an Executive MBA, CIPD professional qualifications and a first-class honours degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Strathclyde. He was a member of the UK Shipbuilding Skills Taskforce in 2023 and has previously served on the executive committee of Scottish Engineering and as President of Glasgow Chamber of Commerce.
