Digital Design & Innovation
We are investing in state-of-the-art digital design tools to develop the next generation of naval platforms. Our engineers are working collaboratively across sites to create flexible, future-ready designs that meet evolving defence requirements.
This digital-first approach enables faster prototyping, improved accuracy and seamless integration with advanced manufacturing systems, positioning Navantia UK at the forefront of naval innovation.
Navantia UK will develop Digital Twins, a virtual twin of the ship, onboard and ashore that can be used to optimise operations and maintenance, improving crew safety, increasing availability and reducing energy use and crewing requirements.

SMARTShips: The Future of Naval Technology
Navantia’s SMARTShips line represents the future of naval technology. These multi-role surface combatants are designed to address emerging threats, enable linked operations between services and incorporate advanced materials and production methods.
SMARTShips will feature reduced crew operation, new propulsion and energy systems, enhanced combat capabilities and extensive use of unmanned systems.
Digital Twins & Through-Life Support
Navantia UK is developing digital twin technology to optimise ship operations and maintenance. These virtual replicas, accessible both onboard and ashore, improve crew safety, increase platform availability and reduce energy consumption and crewing requirements.
Our Belfast facility, operating under the Harland & Wolff brand, provides in-service support, repair and maintenance, and decommissioning services. Together, we offer a full lifecycle solution for naval assets.
